Our Youth Programme provides an exciting platform for young people to harness their energy positively and productively. The KwaMakhutha Community Resource Centre’s Youth Programme is run by locals Thabani Zuma and Mhlengi Ndlela. These two are passionate about assisting the youth fight against challenges like:

  • Gang violence
  • Drug abuse
  • Teenage pregnancy
  • Unemployment
  • School turf wars

Our youth did not have a place to conduct activities to address the challenges they were facing. The proactive young people decided to get their hands dirty and cleaned up a derelictand dilapidated building which they now use as a recreational space for all of their activities. Youth from in and around KwaMakhutha gather regularly at their temporary recreational centre. The younger children that used to play on the streets now play safely indoors under the watchful eye of the older youth.

Some of the exciting activities that take place at the temporary recreational centre are:

  • Drama
  • Poetry
  • Arts and culture recreational activities
  • Dance lessons
  • Music lessons
  • Indoor sports

Our Youth conduct educational plays in schools to educate and inform learners about the social ills within the community.  They also stage plays about drug abuse at rehabilitation centres to inform, entertain and motivate the youth in the centres.

We collaborate with community leaders, churches and the private sector to further drive our youth empowerment initiatives. We believe in moulding and shaping young minds as they are the future of a prosperous KwaMakhutha.
